This accurate topographical drawing is a study for the artist's painting, formerly on loan to the National Gallery, London, and since 1972 in the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh.

Inscription:

Inscribed at lower right, in black ink, "A. Cúÿp". Inscribed on the verso, at lower left, in graphite, "Wharncliffe".
