Brown calf, tooled in gilt to a simple (often called "primitive") fanfare design with painted (oxidized silver?) strapwork and Madruzzo's arms in a central medallion; smooth back, all edges gilt. Binding possibly attributed to Claude de Picques (see Needham, Twelve Centuries, no. 81).
Provenance:
Gian Federico Madruzzo, armorial binding, marginal annotations and inscriptions (front pastedown and colophon of De fide) dated June-August 1572.
