PML copy with letter laid in from the Libraire de la Bibliothèque Royale, Paris to the Duke of Sutherland offering him six de Thou bindings, 31 October 1835: "We have the honor to send you the two volumes which you chose this morning, and we include at the same time the note of the six volumes of de Thou, of which you enquired the price. You know, Milord, that the examples are much more sought after than the others and as a result more expensive, we have given you the most modest price possible." Paper is 24.3 x 36.6 cm, folded 3 times, with laurel wreath watermark in center.

Binding: 
Early seventeenth-century French red morocco on 5 bands (23.4 x 17.5 cm) with triple gilt filet on boards for Jacques-August de Thou. Arms of de Thou and his second wife, Gasparde de la Chastre (married ca. 1602), on top and bottom boards; monogram and de Thou gadfly on spine panels. Embroidered endbands. All edges gilt. Arms of George, 2nd Duke of Sutherland added to top board above de Thou.
