Bound in red goatskin, gilt in an ornate Italian baroque pattern for presentation to Duke Ranuccio Farnese; multiple roll-tooled borders around sides, large fan-shaped inner cornerpieces, in the shaped central panel, flanked by large sprays of laurel, the duke's arms inlaid on a shield of red morocco, surrounded by small arabesque tools, partly pointillé with the large ducal coronet above; gilt and gauffered edges.
