Binding:
16th-century French gilt-tooled, dark brown calf, with royal arms of France surrounded by initials "I M D P" within central panel; four disks with stamped portrait of Francis I ("F Rex") and Dido (thought to represent Diane de Poitiers) in corners, all within a foliate ornamental frame; rebacked, with former spine leather preserved in rear pastedown. Gilt and gauffered edge with inscription "Virtus est vitius fugere" (from Horace, Epistles, 1.41: "virtus est vitium fugere"). 4 ties, missing.
