19th-century English blue-green morocco, with inlaid red and black strapwork, gold tooled in 16th-century design, by Zaehnsdorf, with tooling by Louis Hagué. Silk brocade pastedowns and endleaves. Morgan copy with a letter laid-in from H.D. Lyons (bookseller) confirming that Hagué had worked as a finisher at Zaehnsdorf and was responsible for sevral bindings of a "neo-Grolieresque" design.
Provenance:
James Anderson Rose, armorial bookplate; and a note that the book was owned by Edward Stanley, 15th earl of Derby in 1892.
