16th-century French calf, gold-tooled with a semis of fleurs-de-lis, frame of crowned, addorsed C's, and arabesque cornerpieces; on the upper cover the royal arms, on the lower cover the device of Charles IX (two columns, and the motto "Pietate et Justitia"); presumably the dedication copy for Charles IX.
