Volumes 1 and 3: 16th-century Venetian gold-tooled dark brown morocco by the Mendoza Binder (Andrea di Lorenzo?) (see Hobson, Renaissance Book Collecting, App. 5, nos. 103-04). Gilt and gauffered edges.
Provenance: 
The 3 volumes were assembled by Renouard (or before?) and come from different collections. Vol. 1: "HĒR ST̄A", tooled on front cover; vol. 3: "P.F.P." tooled on front cover and Bibliothèque du Prytanée (La Fleche, France), stamp (vol. 3, title page). All 3 volumes: Antoine Augustin Renouard (1765-1853), his sale: Bibliotheca Aldina, Evans, 26 June 1828, lot 394 for £7.7.0 to: Archibald Acheson, Earl of Gosford (1806-1864), armorial booklabel and shelfmark: C3 (front pastedown of vol. 2 only), entire library purchased in 1878 by: James Toovey (1814-1893), through inheritance to his son: Charles J. Toovey (1848-1925), Burnham Abbey booklabel (front pastedown), entire library purchased in 1899 by: Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913), purchased with the Toovey collection, 1899.
