This edition was attacked by the Sorbonne and Estienne had difficulty getting it published; after publication it continued to cause trouble until after his removal from Paris later in the year.

Binding: 
16th-century morocco, gold tooled with interlace design, foliate ornaments and pointille, and hand painted. Edges gilt, gauffered, and painted. Nixon identifies as an Italian (Florence or Venice?) binding in the French style, ca. 1575.
