Jacob van Ruisdael (1628-1682) is known for his many pastoral and woodland landscapes. View of the Bank of a Stream with Trees and a Road features the landscape above the figure of a farmer driving a cow in the distance, or the couple in the foreground, motifs that are integral to the composition when observed in detail.
