"Seal 1070 presents a Syrian motif, two male figures with a guilloche between them, as in 925, a seal of the first Syrian group. However, the second element of the scene, a symmetrical design consisting of a stylized tree, flanked at either side by a bird and griffin, does not conform to Syrian examples. The rather free postures of the griffins, which are reared on their hind legs, and of the birds, which are swooping downward, seem to suggest Aegean influence. However, no exact Aegean parallels can be cited, and it is equally possible that this seal should be associated with the art of a different region, namely, northeastern Syria. A seal found at Tall Chagar Bazar, which Frnakfort regards as Mitannian, shows somewhat comparable figures of griffins and birds in a symmetrical arrangement."--Porada, CANES, p. 149
