Nude female figure beside sitting griffin

between 1350 B.C. and 1200 B.C.
hematite
16 x 11 mm
Morgan Seal 1046
Provenance:
Acquired by Pierpont Morgan sometime between 1885 and 1908.
Notes:

"In 1045 the group of two lions and a long-horned antelope strongly recalls a Nuzi impression (Nuzi 575), in which, however, the human figure is that of a man with a scimitar, perhaps a hunter, while in 1045 it is that of a nude female. The same sigure appears in the very similar motif of 1046."--Porada, CANES, p. 145

Summary:

"Nude female beside sitting griffin -- Two kneeling antelopes with tree between them -- Beside female, antelope's head -- Beside tree, bull's head -- In sky, two spirals, scorpion."--Porada, CANES, p. 145
