No earlier Syrian parallels can be adduced for 991 and 992. Their theme, composed of winged figures with a tree between them, seems to have penetrated late into Syrian glyptic, perhaps under the influence of Mitannian art, in which a tree with flanking fiugres is so frequently featured."--Porada, CANES, p. 134
