hematite

Morgan Seal 895
Provenance:
Acquired by Pierpont Morgan sometime between 1885 and 1908.
Notes:

"In 895, as in 894, the statue of the bull is placed above other animal figures. Other elements of its scene include the Old Babylonian war goddess and nude bearded hero rendered in fairly traditional manner. However, the boat with human prow and stern in which the goddess stands is unusual."--Porada, CANES, p. 113
