Offering scene with seated figures and attendant proffering cup and tube

between 2500 B.C. and 2350 B.C.
lapis lazuli
13 x 7 mm
Morgan Seal 121
Provenance:
Acquired by Pierpont Morgan sometime between 1885 and 1908.
Notes:

"The scene of 121 is less explicit [than 120]. That it is an offering scene becomes clear only when it is compared with a seal impression from Fara in which a seated figure, facing a worshiper, holds a plant over an altar; a spouted vessel is placed before a second figure seated opposite. The Fara impression obviously renders an offering scene rather than a banquet, and the theme of 121 may therefore be interpreted in the same sense, although the figures are differently arranged." Porada, CANES, p. 18
