ca. 1652

210 x 160 mm
RvR 360
NHD 270, I
Provenance:
Purchased from Gilhofer & Ranschburg via Schab in September 2 1929.
Inscription:
Watermark: Coat of arms divided into four parts, with fleur-de-lis and letters "M An?" and other forms inside.
Notes:
An early impression where the drypoint burr is strong and especially prominent on Faust's robe, the curtain at left, and in the modeling of the skull. A ghostly film of tone covers the magic disk and its rays, suggesting that the vision exists on a plane apart from the brilliant light of the clean wiped window. (Boston 1969, no. 46)
One of two impressions of state I in the Library (see RvR 361).
