Join Morgan docents as they take a close look at the life and works of Franz Kafka, including the manuscript copy of his most famous novella, The Metamorphosis. At the time of his death from tuberculosis, in 1924, his reputation was anything but secure and none of his three novels had yet been published. We will trace the surprising story of the survival and publication of his work as well as his emergence as an immensely influential figure in all arts right up to today. From stories, diaries, letters, and drawings, our Zoom tour will show how Kafka’s own experiences nourished his imagination, and how his many contradictions led to work that fused elements of realism and the fantastic.
