Morgan After Hours: Summer Salon

Dear Gentle Reader,

You are cordially invited to the Summer Salon at the Morgan Library & Museum for an evening of live music, artmaking, drinks, art, and literature in all of the Morgan’s gilded age glamour.

This season, explore Regency and Victorian-era exhibitions A Lively Mind: Jane Austen at 250 and Arresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron, as well as contemporary works by Lisa Yuskavage and myriad treasures in A Celebration: Acquisitions in Honor of the Morgan’s Centennial. Fill your dance card with Country Dance New York (no prior experience or partner needed), embrace your inner artist with drop-in silhouette cutting, promenade in the garden, and enjoy tea and treats at the café.

Morgan After Hours is open to all attendees ages 21 and up. Dress code: summertime chic optional.

English Country Dancing 6:30-7:30 & 7:45-8:40

English country dance is a social dance enjoyed by Jane Austen and now you! English dances and their tunes vary from elegant to energetic and from stately to boisterous, and you will experience all these facets while dancing to live music with Country Dance New York. No partner or prior experience needed. Note: We encourage soft soled shoes.
 

Silhouettes

Silhouette portraits became a popular entertainment activity in the mid- 18th and early 19th centuries. Learn to make your own hand-cut silhouette in this drop-in artmaking experience. All materials will be provided.
 

Garden Promenade

Explore the Morgan Garden’s statues and floral symbolism arm-in-arm with a friend.
 

Fill Your Dance Card with Art

Pick up a dance card to discover a sequence of art and literary objects to visit. 
 

Small Talk or Deep Dive

Connect with art and literary objects at the Morgan through informal conversations in the galleries with others. Drop in for a quick meet and greet or stay for a deep discussion!
