Experience the magic of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol in Skylark Vocal Ensemble’s musical interpretation, narrated by actor Christine Baranski. Working from the original text abridged by Skylark artistic director Matthew Guard, composer Benedict Sheehan has created a score that weaves familiar Christmas carols into the fabric of the Dickens story for an unforgettable new version of a holiday classic. Every holiday season, the Morgan displays the original 1843 manuscript in J. Pierpont Morgan’s historic library. Attendees are invited to a view the manuscript before the concert from 5:30–6:30 PM.
Skylark Vocal Ensemble is a premier vocal ensemble of leading American vocal soloists, chamber musicians, and music educators. Since its founding in 2011 in Atlanta and Boston, Skylark has branched out to perform its dynamic programs in museums, concert halls, and churches across the United States. Skylark’s dramatic performances have been described as “gripping” (The Times of London) and “awe-inspiring” (Boston Music Intelligencer). With “some of Boston’s best singers” (Boston Globe), Skylark strives to set the standard for innovative and engaging programs that re-define the choral experience for audiences and singers alike.
Christine Baranski is known for her work in film, television, and stage. Winner of an Emmy, Screen Actors Guild, American Comedy, Drama Desk, and two Tony Awards, Baranski has achieved acclaim in every medium in which she has performed. Currently starring in The Gilded Age, Baranski has received recognition for her television roles in Cybill, The Good Wife, and Fraiser. She has performed on numerous Broadway stages including roles in The Real Thing, Rumors, Lips Together Teeth Apart. Her film credits include The Birdcage, Chicago, Mamma Mia!, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Addams Family Values, and Cruel Intentions, among others.
This concert takes place in Gilder Lehrman Hall on the Ground Floor. Doors to the Hall will open 30 minutes before the concert begins. Seating is general admission. The original 1843 manuscript of A Christmas Carol will be on view in J. Pierpont Morgan’s historic library for concert attendees 5:30–6:30 PM.
