Etching formerly attributed to Adriaen van Ostade by Bartsch; Hollstein tentatively reattributes the print to Willem Basse, and notes that the print is after a drawing by A. Victoryns in the Museum in Budapest.
Titles from Hollstein.
Mounted as item 46 into an album of 63 etchings by van Ostade, evidently created by collecter Achille Seilliere (PML 4350).
Woman catching fleas
Print shows a seated woman picking fleas or lice from the head of a man, who sits on the ground leaning against her knee; a standing peasant on the right inspects the inside of a jug; on the far right, in the background, a child stands eating from a bowl, which is set upon a wooden chest; a white cat crouches between the child and the standing peasant.
