Album contains a collection of fashion plates, costume prints, genre scenes, etc., by Gavarni, dated 1830-1857; chiefly prints published individually in journals of the day, including L'Artiste, Journal des gens du monde, Journal des jeunes personnes, and La mode, among others, along with a few plates from published suites of plates by the artist. The prints are lithographs, with the exception of six hand colored crayon manner and soft ground etchings by N. Desmadryl after drawings by Gavarni, including a set of four plates published in L'Artiste under the title "Travestissement", and a pair of prints published in the same journal under the title Physionomie des modes. The album contains some hand-colored plates, as well impressions on chine collé and a few proofs before letters.
