Series of plates originally published in 1735, with subsequent reissues of reimpressions from the original copperplates published during the artist's lifetime and thereafter; these impressions are the later retouched 3rd and 4th states, showing the various changes made to the plates by Hogarth during his lifetime as described by Paulson.
Set forms part of an album (PML 146851) that is one of three containing the collected works of William Hogarth; evidently comprised of prints issued by the artist's widow Jane Hogarth (1711?-1789) and compiled no earlier than 1781 (see PML 146851-53).
