Album composed of early 19th century impressions of Le Prince's prints printed on wove paper with several of the plates bearing the watermark "J. Whatman 1825", making the collection considerably later than the posthumous 1782 edition of Le Prince's etchings and aquatints issued by Pierre Franç̧ois Basan (1723-1797) who had acquired the artist's original plates shortly after his death in 1781. Cf. Ray.
Consists of 72 prints executed in etching and aquatint by Le Prince, including collected suites of prints (some of them incomplete) and individual plates by Le Prince, most of them depicting life, costume, and scenery in Russia and the northern nations and dated from 1763 to 1775. Collections of Le Prince's etchings and aquatints such as this one were evidently sold by the printseller without a collective title, with the resulting volumes typically varying somewhat in content and in the number of plates included. See PML 141253 in the Library's collection for another similar album of 19th century impressions of Le Prince's prints.
Sets and individual prints comprising this album have been cataloged separately (see PML 140117.1-31).
