The Morgan Library & Museum is pleased to present a major exhibition devoted to the life and career of its inaugural director, Belle da Costa Greene (1879–1950). The first-ever retrospective of Greene’s life, the exhibition celebrates both the centennial of the Morgan as a public institution and the 100th anniversary of Greene’s appointment as its first director. On view October 25, 2024 through May 4, 2025, Belle da Costa Greene: A Librarian’s Legacy will trace Greene’s storied life, from her roots in a predominantly Black community in Washington, D.C., to her distinguished career at the helm of one of the world’s great research libraries.
