19th-century replica of 11th-century Byzantine medallion.
Related in style, color, smoothness and workmanship to a large group of enamels which were in the Michael Botkin collection in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Inscription in Greek identifies the figure as St. John the Theologian; numbered on reverse, "P.M. 903".
