Engraving shows a full-length of view of the wall monument created by sculptor Prince Hoare of Bath: a black obelisk with a roundel with a portrait of Pope in profile, with the inscription "Alexandro Pope / M.H. / Gulielmus episcopus glocestriensis / amicitae causa fac.cur. / MDCCLXI"; and in a panel below: "Poeta Loquitur. / For one who would not be buried / in Westminster Abbey / Heroes and Kings' your distance keep. / In peace let one poor Poet sleep; / Who never flatter'd folks like you: / Let Horace blush and Virgil too."
