According to a letter to the Morgan Library dated December 28, 1966 from the Director of the Historijskog Arhiva Rijeka, Rijeka, Yugoslavia, Alexander Scott was born on the 1st of September 1793 in Edinburgh and died in Rijeka on 18 November 1860. In 1822 he and Christina Adamić Lavoratori, whom he met in Italy, had a daughter, Sabina and the family moved permanently to Rijeka around 1840. Sabina died in 1900 and in her will bequeathed letters from Lord Byron to her father to her cousin Robert Scott Chisholme of 51 Oxford Gardens, Notting Hill, London. The letters then became the possession of Mr. Chisholme's wife, Alice Scott Chisholme who sold them to Walter Vernon Daniell, a London antiquarian bookseller. Mr. Morgan bought them from Mr. Daniell in 1903.
