Binding: 17th-century Roman morocco, elaborately gold tooled in geometric patterns with floral and other motifs in border: an octagonal central design of shield with a cross and the letters S.P.Q.R. surmounted by crown and surrounded by angels; elaborate border with various motifs; gilt back and gilt design on edges.
