Written for the Orsini family in Rome (arms in an arch on the second flyleaf verso and at the tailpiece on fol. 1: a bendy of six argent and gules, on a chief of the first supported by a devise or and a rose of the second); owned by Costantino Corvisieri; his sale (Rome, Apr. 15, 1901, catalogue 2, no. 8, plate 3) to the Brazilian minister to St. Petersburg Dr. José Augusto Ferreira da Costa (d. 1910); purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) from Alexandre Imbert in July 1910; J.P. Morgan (1867-1943).

Decoration: 1 illuminated frontispiece with miniature of Petrarch, and Orsini arms; the illuminated title page is dated 1476 on the second flyleaf verso; the 14 miniatures throughout the text are considered 19th century additions.
Artist: frontispiece attributed by Mirella Levi d'Ancona to Mariano del Buono di Jacopo in 1970.
