19th century blind-tooled quarter alum-tawed pigskin over wooden boards (34.5 x 24 cm.), sewn on 3 supports probably by the Doves Bindery for Morris (tools also found on Morris's pigskin Kelmscott Chaucer design). Plain paper fly leaves; plain endbands.

Hand decoration: Southern French(?) illuminated border with singing putti and gilt historiated initial (leaf a2r), alternating red and blue initials and paragraph marks and red capital strokes. Annotations: Contemporary marginal notations, predominantly on first few leaves, with manuscript headlines sporadically throughout. Several early French inscriptions (leaf a1v). Unidentified verse inscription: "Corrite peccatorum al sacro legno...," 16th century (original front paper fly leaf verso). Unidentified (donation?) inscription: "Mars 24.___ x12 May 24 s.12 Jullot 24 /12," 17th/18th century (rear ruled fly leaf).
