This Women’s History Month, discover the extraordinary story of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, a brilliant composer long ignored by the classical music world in favor of her famous brother, Felix. This compelling feature documentary (Sheila Hayman/2023/93 minutes) centers on the discovery of her Easter Sonata—a work that was lost for 150 years and when found was attributed to Felix, before finally being recognized as hers. Filmed in part at the Morgan Library & Museum where the Easter Sonata manuscript is on deposit (Robert Owen Lehman Collection). The work will be brought to life by pianist Lydia Artymiw following the screening.

Filmmaker Sheila Hayman will facilitate a Q&A.

This film is not rated but has been deemed appropriate for ages 13 and up. This program takes place in Gilder Lehrman Hall on the Ground Floor. Doors to the Hall will open 30 minutes before the program begins. Seating is general admission.
