One of a set of four commemorative stamps issued by the United States Postal Service honoring American big band leaders. Issued on September 11, 1996, in New York, as part of the Legends of American music seriesl. Designed by Bill Nelson of Richmond, Virginia, the Big band leaders stamps portray Count Basie, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, and Benny Goodman. Ashton-Potter (USA), Ltd., printed the stamps, in panes of twenty, using the lithographic offset process. Cf. the online catalog of the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, object no. 1998.2010.384.
