Adam Bartsch's suggestion that the print depicts a black model has been disputed. In Röver's inventory the model is referred to as 'het slapende vrouwtje' (the sleeping woman), and probably comes under the heading 'slaapende naeckte vrouwtjes' (sleeping women) in de Jonghe's inventory ("pace" Valentiner, who identified it with 'naeckte Kleopatra' (naked Cleopatra)- see B. 202). (White and Boon) Further shading has been added to the pillow and possibly to the figure. (Boston 1969, p. 16).
