Create your own costume headpiece inspired by the work of Maurice Sendak. Craft a crown like Max in Where the Wild Things Are or a pair of fox ears like The Cunning Little Vixen.
- Compose Yourself!
Play with photography and collage techniques featured in Among Others: Photography and the Group to design a fabulously fractured self-portrait.
- Head in the Hole
Get into character, literally, as J. Pierpont Morgan or the museum’s first director, Belle da Costa Greene, using our head-in-the-hole board created by artist Pam Koehler.
- Song of Myself
On the Morgan’s Poetry Wall, compose your own unique verses inspired by great writers such as Walt Whitman.

Actor Stephen Ringold portrays Walt Whitman in an interactive theatrical reading. Whitman was a famous orator of his own works; hear the poetry as he intended with a theatrical reading in J. Pierpont Morgan’s Historic Library.

Family tour of Drawing the Curtain: Maurice Sendak’s Designs for Opera and Ballet
Maurice Sendak had a second career as a designer of sets for opera and ballet. Families will explore Sendak’s theatrical work together, including items like puppets, illustrations, and the toys Sendak made as a child with his siblings.

Director Spike Jonze and writer Dave Eggers adapted and expanded the original work of Maurice Sendak, with large scale puppets created by the Jim Henson Creature Shop. Sendak’s beautifully drawn Wild Things come alive through the voices of James Gandolfini, Catherine O’Hara, Forest Whitaker, and Chris Cooper in this feature-length film.
