Decoration: 45 costumes painted on mica sheets, 1 painted figure of a woman over which the mica sheets can be laid.
Binding: French (Parisian?) coffret, covered with brown morocco gilt, sem ̌with fleurs-de-lys, ca. 1700, catches and clasps. It opens to reveal two recessed oval compartments: a shallow version at left, painted with a half-length portrait of a woman, over which the painted mica sheets may be laid; at right, a deeper area to house the sheets, decorated at the bottom with floral designs on a light blue ground. Contained in a 20th-century brown morocco box case lined with red velvet, stamped in gold on spine: Costume Miniature circa 1650, by JPW.
