Binding: 
Original traditional Armenian binding, reddish-brown calf, fore-edge flap missing, enameled silver repoussé plaques with hinged siver spine nailed to covers executed in late 17th-early 18th-century Kayseri. On the front plaque, 4 male saints, on the back plaque, a depiction of Joseph's Dream based on woodcuts from the Oskan Bible, the first Armenian Bible, printed in Amsterdam in 1666; the Dream of Joseph is based on a woodcut by Christoffel van Sichem (ca. 1546-1624) found on p.432 (second pagination).

Provenance: 
Four separate stamps are clues to the manuscript's whereabouts at different times: on fol. 5, 2 similar stamps read a) Yovsep' Vardapet, and b) k ̕c ̕(abbreviation for Servant of God - a cleric), Yovsep' Vardapet, and the date 1227, equivalent to 1778 A.D.; a third stamp on fol. 5, repeated on fol. 466v, has an unintelligible monogram and the date A.D. 1828; on fol. 4v, a stamp of ownership by the Armenian Prelacy of Tokat; old shelfmark or dealer's number 721 written in black ink on small blue-bordered paper label on inside front cover; probably purchased by J.P. Morgan (1837-1913) before 1913.
