Original white pigskin over boards; stamped with a stylized peacock design on upper cover, central panel; surrounded by 8 circular stamps, 4 with the eagle of St. John, 4 with an Agnus Dei; stamps filled with red pigment; remains of 2 clasps on fore-edge. Signed with name of binder, Johannes Richenbach, on lower cover (Per.me.rich.en.bach. .illi ga tus. .ingÿs lingen) and with name of owner on upper cover (iste liber perinet domino bartholomeo scher.en.bach.).
