19th- or 20th-century blue velvet over boards; two clasps, one broken; plate of Gotham Book Mart (the binder) pasted inside lower back cover; with lead seal of Philip IV now detatched from its braided ribbon and accomodated with the manuscript in a clamshell box made by Deborah Evetts.

Ms. letters patent of nobility for Antonio Palomino de León; written and illuminated in Granada, Spain, in 1639; signed and dated Granada, Aug. 13, 1639 on fol. 75.
Decoration: 3 full-page miniatures, 1 small portrait of Palomino on fol. 74; 23 large illuminated initials with floral and animal motifs.
The miniature on fol. 2 has been compared with an engraving by Martin Schongauer, "St. James the Greater Overcoming the Saracens" (Bartsch, no. 53)--Cf. files.
