This letter was written from "Prison de St. Gilles." Edith Cavell was executed at dawn on October 12, 1915.
Miss Butcher was a parishioner at the Church of the Resurrection in Brussels, the church Miss Cavell also attended. Miss Butcher asked the Vicar, Rev. Philip Stocks, to help Pauline Randall and Miss Cavell would become Pauline's godmother, would educate her and set money aside in an account for her.
Making financial arrangements for the care of Pauline Randall; asking her to forward a letter to England; saying "Would it be troubling you too much to ask you to take charge of this letter & send it to England later on. I am enclosing [blank space] of Pauline's money, the rest to be paid thro' my Mother in England as she requires it - I am asking you to do this as it seems wrong to let her have it on account of her family etc. She is now chez Mme. Francois, 1 rue Van Campenhont, N.E. and seems to be happy. Please watch over her a little, she is so young - I think something can be made of her tho' she is difficult at times. My very kind regards to you and Miss Dine & goodbye"; adding, in a postscript, "If you see Miss Rowney at any time will you remember me to her very kindly."
