Notes: 

Signed and dated by Fardon on the front flyleaf. Several entries mark locations in Brighthelmstone and Hampton-in-Arden, suggesting that Fardon may have lived in East Sussex.
Contributed to by numerous men and women of Fardon's acquaintance, most of whom sign and date their entries. Many pages contain both a poem and an illustration. Some illustrations are humorous; others depict plants and flowers or landscapes.
Blue, pink, and other colored papers are used in the book.
One page contains a specimen of seaweed. Other notable elements include a photograph showing a group of children by a small bridge and a three-panel comic strip.
Most of the literary contributions are in English, with the exception of a long poem in French and a short one in Greek.
