Thanking him for his note and agreeing that Harpers, Harcourt, and the others all sound great; asking about the magazine sale and if he can delete some sections to make the works be able to stand alone; asking if Harcourt is now Harcourt, Brace & World; adding that he is enclosing a short story that he wrote yesterday and that he started a new novel last week; saying that if Volkening finds it funny, he should see if the New Yorker is interested; stating that he has an assortment of short stories in a file cabinet and that he hasn't written a short story since 1957; adding that he could edit a couple of stories, but he's not sure if they will be able to stand up without major edits; asking what Mr. Russell's first name is and if he will be stopping in Puerto Rico during his spring travels.
