Written before Bowles moved to Tangier in 1947; probably written in 1946 based on his reference to shows that have closed recently (Antigone, Around the World, and Billion Dollar Baby).
Part of a collection of letters to José Rodríguez Feo, a Cuban who edited the magazine Orígenes in the 1940s and 50s. Letters in the collection are described in individual records; see MA 5659 for more information.
Reporting that his health "improved immediately upon my leaving New York. I was completely fatigued, and needed a little country air and sunshine to set me straight"; mentioning that he gave up his job on the Herald Tribune "in order to be free to work as and when [he] like[d]"; wondering if Rodríguez Feo can visit him in Southampton since he doesn't plan to be in New York in September; describing the perfumes he asked Rodríguez Feo to bring with him; discussing the books of [Ramón José] Sender; remarking that he knows nothing about why the League of Composers wanted Rodríguez Feo's address; asking about what sort of plays Rodríguez Feo would like to see when he is in New York.
