Discussing his work in the personnel office; noting that "the good point about this job ... is that one day is pretty much like another and you don't wake up in the morning, as you do in the field, with no idea of what's going to happen to you"; complaining about the "personnel men" who are "a pain in the neck" and make all their plans "with the idea of personal safety at the top of the list"; adding that she "had better send [him] some money."
