Manuscript is preceded by an autograph declaration of authenticity signed by Charles Auguste (de Sales), Bishop of Geneva, dated March 12, 1654, with seal; counter-signed by Seigneur J. [Challet?]. According to the declaration, the manuscript is a portion of his "Traicté de l'amour de Dieu" published in 1616.
Contains numerous insertions, corrections and deletions.
The manuscript was bound for presentation and given by Charles Auguste de Sales, Bishop of Geneva and nephew of St. Francis de Sales, to Louise Catherine Vernat (b. 1606, d. 1689), Mother Superior, and to the nuns of the Convent of the Order of the Visitation of Saint Mary, Lyon, in 1654.
