18th/19th-century (ca. 1800) English gilt-tooled red morocco over paper boards (32 x 23 cm.), sewn on 4 supports. Marbled paper pastedowns and fly leaves, with plain paper fly leaves; decorative endbands; gilt edges.
Inscriptions/Markings: 

Hand decoration: Contemporary Italian (Pisa?) rubrication, including alternating red and blue initials, some with northern Italian penwork decoration, and 3 gilt initials (that on leaf a"1"r incomplete), some initials unrealized. Annotations: Marginal manuscript notations throughout, citing a commentary by Ambrose, 18th century or soon after rebinding, perhaps by Coombe or Ward.
