A clean wiped impression on Japanese paper which clearly shows the dense network of hatching partly obscured by surface tone in the other two impressions exhibited. (Boston 1969, no. 95)
A curtain rod has been added across the window. By means of burnishing, white cuffs have been added to Haaringh's sleeves. The signature and date have been reworked. (Boston 1969, p. 145)
Hind and Seidlitz believed only the first state was by Rembrandt. (White and Boon)
