Venetian red morocco, gold-tooled and painted; on the upper cover the lion of St. Mark stamped in gold in the center of a geometric design of fillets formed by two single gold lines; on lower cover in center of same design, arms of a member of the Donà dalle Rose (Donato) family (barry of four gules and argent, in chief argent three roses gules) tooled in gold and painted red and silver, flanked by the initials M.D., and below the date MDLXVI.
